Term 2 Update - Wyong Public - 22/04/2020

News Article

Dear Parents and Carers

As you might be aware a number of announcements were made yesterday by the State Premier and also the Minister for Education (NSW) and the heads of schooling. Following this press conference, all Principals were invited to view a live stream from the Department of Education which further detailed these items which will come into effect from Week 3, of Term 2 (11th May 2020). There are a few more items to address which will be completed and communicated by next Monday 27th April 2020.

ALL student work (hard copies and online) for the first week of Term 2 will be ready for students on Tuesday (28th April) morning. Our teachers have already planned work for our students and will release work one week at a time (hard copies and on google classroom). We understand some children will need to be at school each day due to parent work commitments and care arrangements. Teaching staff will again be on flexible rosters over the term at this stage.

Some of the most important items are as follows:

1. Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th April 2020 are both school development days. No children to attend school on these days.

2. Weeks 1 and 2 of term 2 will continue as per the arrangements at the end of term 1, and that is students who need to attend school can do so - no child will be turned away. We will continue to ensure that students can work from home in an online method.

3. From Week 3, May 11 each student will have the opportunity to attend school one day per week. This will be a rostered system and we are looking into how this will look. Further information to follow.

4. Teachers will continue to teach one unit of work (either hard copies or online via Google classroom).

5. Schools have been advised to maintain social distancing in classrooms and this may include 10 students per classroom (not including wet areas etc.). Schools have been asked to keep attendance at approximately 25% each day, therefore at Wyong PS we can safely accommodate this figure and more as required.

6. The Department of Education has made a commitment to providing additional cleaning, hand soap and hand sanitizer. Our school has already been provided with additional soap and additional cleaning.

7. Guidelines will be provided by the Department that will give direction on issues such as health, attendance and curriculum. Further information will be provided.

8. The school will stagger student breaks where needed depending on the numbers, and there will be no excursions or inter-school activities.
We will liaise with the canteen as to when they may re-open.

We will continue to update things via our Skoolbag application, or alternately please phone the school as required. Please rest assured that the well being and health of our students is paramount. We thank you for your support and patience during this time.

Kind regards,

Mr Todd Miladinovic

Principal, Wyong PS
