Wyong Public School is proud to host an Opportunity Class (OC), offering a vibrant and enriched learning environment for academically gifted and high-potential students in Years 5 and 6. Opportunity Classes are a NSW Department of Education initiative that give students the chance to engage in challenging, fast-paced learning tailored to their abilities.
Having an Opportunity Class right here at Wyong is a tremendous advantage for our community. Families don’t need to travel far to access this specialised program—it’s available in their local school, within a caring and supportive environment. Our OC students not only thrive in advanced academic programs, but also enjoy all the opportunities that make Wyong Public special: sport, performing arts, leadership, and community involvement.
The Wyong OC is well known for fostering curiosity, collaboration, and creativity. Students are encouraged to push the boundaries of their learning, work together to solve complex challenges, and develop the confidence to shine. Each year, our OC students share inspiring projects and achievements that reflect both their personal growth and the dynamic learning culture of our school.
To see what our Opportunity Class has been up to, you can read about their latest exploits and achievements in our school newsletter.
By offering an Opportunity Class, Wyong Public School sets itself apart as a school that caters for every learner—from those needing extra support to those ready for enrichment at the highest levels. We are proud and fortunate to provide this prestigious program locally, ensuring that families in our region have access to the very best in gifted education.

High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
