Term 2, Week 3 | 2026
Hi Wyong Public School,
đ¸ Happy Motherâs Day
As we move through another busy and exciting term, I would like to begin by wishing all of the incredible mums, nans, grandmas, aunties, sisters and special mother figures in our community a very Happy Motherâs Day. We hope you enjoy a wonderful weekend celebrating with family and loved ones. A huge thank you also goes to our amazing P&C for once again organising such a fantastic Motherâs Day Stall for our students. Your ongoing support and generosity are always greatly appreciated.
đŤ Open Day â Thursday 25 June
Planning is underway for a school Open Day, which will be held on Thursday 25 June. This event is designed for new, future and prospective families considering Wyong Public School and is not intended for current families. Families may notice banners, flyers throughout the community and boosted Facebook advertising promoting the event. It is incredibly important that we continue showcasing the outstanding opportunities available at our school and the amazing work happening every day for our students.
đ Got It! Program Begins
This term has already seen the commencement of the Got It! program at Wyong Public School. We are incredibly grateful for our continued partnership with Central Coast Health in delivering this valuable initiative. Got It! provides wonderful support for families and students in developing emotional regulation skills and understanding emotions. As part of the program, the team is also delivering weekly professional learning sessions for our SLSOs around emotion coaching strategies to further strengthen support across our school.
đ§ Rumbleâs Quest Student Wellbeing Survey
Last week, families received information regarding Rumbleâs Quest, including details about the opt-out process. Rumbleâs Quest is an extremely valuable student wellbeing survey that works alongside the NSW Public Schools Survey to help schools better understand student wellbeing and engagement. Families wishing to learn more can visit: https://www.realwell.org.au/rumbles-quest/ All data collected is secure and only accessible to school executive staff.
đ NSW Public Schools Survey
The NSW Public Schools Survey is currently open for students, parents/carers and teachers throughout all of Term 2. This is our first year engaging with the parent/carer survey and already 43 families have completed it â thank you! Your feedback plays an important role in helping shape our future school directions and school planning. The survey is confidential and anonymous, and we strongly encourage all families to participate via the following link: https://surveyme.education.nsw.gov.au/sc/MCEiCAtscpWI7buuUxgRew2 Your voice is incredibly important to us and we are very grateful for your support and feedback.
đđ Fathering Project â Hotdogs and Handball
We are excited to announce our upcoming Fathering Project event, Hotdogs and Handball, to be held on 18 June. This event is for dads, pops, uncles, big brothers and all father figures â and yes, father figures can absolutely be female too! The evening will be run by Red and Trev and supported by GNL, Talk 2 Me Bro and Wyong High School. Further information will be sent home shortly.
đ NAPLAN Preliminary Results
Our preliminary NAPLAN results for 2026 (excluding Writing) have now become available to schools. Mrs Carter and Mrs Bath have done a sensational job working alongside executive staff to begin reviewing the data. Once full reports and final results are released, we will undertake a deeper analysis to identify areas of focus as we begin shaping priorities for our next school plan.
đ Year 6 Shirts Update
Unfortunately, delivery of the Year 6 shirts has been delayed due to worldwide supply factors that are outside of the schoolâs control. MHS Teamwear have been excellent in keeping us updated throughout the process and we are hopeful the shirts will arrive later this term. We appreciate familiesâ patience and understanding. We do not place orders the year prior as we often have new enrolments commence at the beginning of Term 1 each year.
â˝ Future Football (Soccer) Field Improvements
We are currently exploring improvements to our football (soccer) facilities. Plans are being investigated to establish two permanent fields on the top oval, along with two flexible-use fields on the bottom oval. This is a significant project, as we are looking at high-quality materials to ensure the facilities are durable and long-lasting for our students and community.
Thank you for your continued support of Wyong Public School. Together, we continue to create incredible opportunities for our students each and every day.
Warm regards,
Mitchell Welham | Principal
Wyong Public School

K-2 Literacy and Numeracy News
Early Stage 1 students have recently completed their first âSpelling Pitstopâ assessment. This gives teachers the chance to check in with each studentâs knowledge of the sounds and matching letters that our Kindy students were introduced to last term. s a t p i n
We are now learning to blend these sounds together to read and write small words such as: it, pin and sat. Itâs so exciting to see the progress that our youngest students are making after their first term of learning at school! We are so proud to share some photos of the wonderful word work and writing in Kindy classrooms!
The key to success, when learning early phonics skills, is regular practice of these sound and letter patterns. There are so many ways that you can support your child with this foundational learning. Why not go on a sound hunt and find the matching letters at the shops or on street signs when youâre walking to and from school?
I Spy! Is a fun game that you can play anywhere, anytime!
Parent/ Carer: â I spy something beginning with (say the sound) sâ
Child: âskyâ, âsocksâ, âsunniesâ
Year 1 students will commence the Number Screening Check from next week (Week 4). The Year 1 Number Screening Check is a short statewide assessment that tells teachers how your child is progressing in early number sense. Some children find developing number sense challenging, so it is important these children are identified quickly. The main purpose of the screener is to provide your childâs teacher with information which will allow them to plan for your childâs learning and any specific support they may need. The screener normally takes between 10- 15 minutes and is carefully designed not to be stressful for your child. They will be completing the screener with their own class teacher. Click here for more information. Year 1 Number Screening Check Parent Info
We will aim to complete all number screening assessments in Week 4 however, any students who are absent will be assessed by their class teacher between weeks 4-6.
Year 2-6 students have commenced two online PAT assessments â Progressive Achievement Tests in Reading and Mathematics. PAT is an online multiple choice test, that provides valuable insight for teachers of each studentâs understanding of key concepts. PAT Maths covers each focus area of Mathematics as well as problem solving skills, while PAT reading assesses comprehension skills. PAT tests are implemented across the school in Term 2 and Term 4. These assessments have helped teachers to identify areas of strength and areas requiring additional support. One of the most exciting features of PAT is to showcase student growth and celebrate success. We canât wait to share our success stories throughout the year!
Whatâs the trick to getting your kids to do more of what you want without the nagging?
Priming is a psychological phenomenon that allows us to influence the unconscious brain and the actions of our children. By using the right words we can increase the probability of getting the behaviour we desire. In a nice way it is manipulating our kids to do what we want, when we want, without them even knowing about it.
How does positive priming work?
Our world is full of negative words and demands. Think about recent interactions with our children. We often resort to âStop thatâ, âDonât do thatâ, âNo you canât.â When we say âStop runningâ the only word heard is running and this causes the brain to send the message that running is ok. By
changing our words and adding a feeling (affective) word we are wiring the brain to a different outcome.
What does it look like at home and school?
We operate Wesley Out of School Hours Care (Wesley OOSH) at Wyong and are committed to providing high-quality care for children.

What Percentrage is Each Grade so far this term?
Parents can check their childâs attendance in the Sentral Parent Portal app by following these steps:
1. Log in
- Open the Sentral for Parents app on your phone or tablet.
- Sign in with your registered email and password. (If you havenât registered yet, youâll need to use the access key provided by your childâs school to set up your account.)
2. Select the Student
- From the home screen, choose your childâs profile.
- If you have multiple children linked, you can switch between them.
3. Access Attendance
- Look for the Attendance or Daily Attendance option in the menu.
- Tap on it to view your childâs records.
4. Review Records
- Youâll see a breakdown of absences, lateness, partial absences, and full-day attendance.
- Many schools colour-code the entries (e.g., green for present, yellow for late, red for absent).
- Some schools also allow you to submit explanations for absences directly in the app.
5. Notifications
- If your school has enabled push notifications, you may also get alerts when your child is marked absent or late.
- You can usually send an absence note via the app straight to the school.
1. Open the App & Log In
- Open the Sentral for Parents app.
- Sign in with your registered details.
2. Go to the Absence Section
- From the home screen, select your childâs profile.
- Look for Absences, Attendance, or sometimes Notifications (the exact wording depends on your schoolâs setup).
3. View Unexplained Absences
- Youâll see a list of absences marked as âUnexplainedâ.
- Tap on the absence you want to explain.
4. Add Explanation
- Enter the reason for your childâs absence (e.g., âillnessâ, âfamily reasonsâ).
- You may also need to select whether it was a full day or partial absence.
- Some schools allow attachments (e.g., medical certificates).
5. Submit
- Tap Submit (or Send) to forward the explanation to the school.
- The absence will then change from Unexplained to Explained once processed.
Extra Notes
- If you canât see the option to submit explanations, your school may only accept absence notes through phone/email.
- You can usually also lodge future absences (e.g., family holiday) if the school has allowed this in Sentral.
1. Collect the Leave Form
- Parents/carers need to request a leave application form from the front office.
- This is often called an Application for Extended Leave â Travel/Exemption form.
2. Provide Supporting Information
-
The form must be accompanied by relevant details, such as:
- Travel itinerary (if going overseas/interstate).
- Reason for leave (e.g., family event, cultural reasons).
- Dates the student will be absent.
-
Supporting documents (e.g., flight details, invitation letters) should be attached.
3. Submit to School
- Return the completed form and attachments to the school office before the leave begins.
- The school staff will record the application and pass it on to the Principal.
4. Principalâs Approval
- The Principal must review and sign the leave application.
- Only the Principal (not classroom teachers or admin staff) can authorise student leave.
5. Notification
- Once approved, the office will notify parents/carers.
- The leave is then entered into Sentral as an âExplained Leaveâ with the Principalâs authorisation.
â
Key Point:
Short absences (1â2 days) can usually be explained directly through the Sentral Parent App.
Extended leave (5+ days, especially for travel) requires the formal leave application process outlined above.
The right support early makes the biggest difference.
Find the care your child needs to help them be the best they can be.
