Term 4, Week 6 | 2025
Community Survey – Thank You
I want to sincerely thank our school community for the outstanding response to our recent Community Survey. We received 124 responses, representing more than one-third of our families. Your feedback was thoughtful, honest and deeply appreciated.
Across the responses, you shared:
- Strong praise for our teachers, school leaders and the positive direction of our school
- Valuable reflections for us to pause and consider
- Clear areas for improvement that we must address as a matter of urgency
Overall, it is clear that our community deeply values the work we are doing to create a safe, inclusive and high-quality learning environment for every child.
These Community Survey results have been paired with the NSW Public Schools Student Survey, completed in Term 2 by all students in Years 3–6. Both sets of results are included in this week’s newsletter as easy-to-read visual tiles and will be shared on our Facebook page soon.
Celebrating Excellence
It has been an incredibly busy three weeks, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Mrs Pass, Mrs Bourke, Mr Tighe, and all staff who supported our Koori Choir at this week’s Ngara AECG Assembly of Excellence.
A huge congratulations to our award recipients:
- Annabelle C
- Archer S
- Aaliyah B
- Ray-J G
- Kody V
We are so proud of each of you for your leadership, culture, voice and contributions to our community.
Two New Initiatives for 2026
I am excited to announce two significant initiatives beginning next year:
1. The Fathering Project
This initiative supports fathers and father-figures to build stronger, more meaningful connections with their children. It fosters positive engagement, strengthens families and helps create a supportive network of dads within our school community. We look forward to launching this important program in 2026.
2. Real Schools Partnership
We are entering a three-year partnership with Real Schools, led by Brett Carr (former Principal). Real Schools focuses on strengthening school culture through relational practice, consistent approaches to behaviour, and ongoing staff development.
Importantly, we will be partnering with Wyong High School in this work. Because we share students, families and community, this collaboration will help us build greater consistency and support for children across both settings.
Kindergarten 2026 – Leap into Learning
I could not be more proud of our wonderful Kindergarten team, led by Mrs Arnot.
Our Leap into Learning transition program has been a joy to watch and continues to provide a calm, supportive and meaningful start to school for our incoming students.
At this stage, we expect to have three Kindergarten classes in 2026, each with around 15 students. This means we still have places available for next year. Please spread the word and encourage families to visit us. I am always happy to offer Principal walk-throughs for any new or prospective families.
Learning Walks – Proud of Our Teachers
Each week, our executive team and I conduct learning walks across the school. These visits help us stay closely connected to teaching and learning across all classrooms.
I particularly enjoy my Monday morning visits to 1P and 2T with Mrs Marler. The explicit teaching strategies being implemented are strong, consistent and effective, and it is wonderful to see the growth in confidence and skills our students are demonstrating.
Our teachers are committed, skilled and deeply dedicated. I continue to be inspired by the learning happening in every corner of our school.

🚨 Coming in 2026: Lesson Library
The Lesson Library includes:
- Clear and consistent lessons
- New and improved resources
- Review of learning activities
- Optional short assessments
These resources are all designed around explicit teaching, meaning lessons are clear, structured and supportive for every learner. The Lesson Library helps teachers spend less time creating materials and more time focusing on what students need most.
We look forward to using this new tool to support high-quality teaching and strong learning growth across our school. In K-2 we will begin with English, and in Years 3-6, we will begin with Mathematics.
🏡 A New Learning Tool for Home & School
We’re excited to share information about the NSW Student Learning Library - a high-quality, online collection of learning activities created by the NSW Department of Education.
The library provides:
- Easy-to-use English and Maths resources (starting with K–2, with more grades to come)
- Curriculum-aligned activities students can use at school or at home
- Videos, interactive tasks and printable worksheets to support learning
- Clear, consistent materials that help families understand what children are learning
This new tool will help strengthen learning both in the classroom and at home, giving students extra support and families more visibility of their child’s progress.

Wyong OOSH Week 6 Term 4 2025 newsletter
Time appears to be speeding up as we race towards Christmas and our summer Vacation Care – where have the weeks gone? We have been blasting through activities and events such as our Halloween celebration and Remembrance Day, and getting lots of outdoor play with the nice, warm weather. Our exciting summer Vacation Care program is very close to being released – keep your eyes peeled for it! We have a jam-packed schedule with lots of well-loved activities.
We are delighted to have the Doggy Daycare come back this week! Our furry friends are trained therapy dogs, who are very well-behaved, calm and friendly. We first met some of the dogs in our spring Vacation Care, and the children loved sitting with the dogs, chilling out and giving them lots pats. We had gentle giant dogs with lots of shaggy fur, as well as smaller, spunky dogs that lapped up all of the attention. We were even lucky enough to see some of the dogs perform tricks, and the owners let us give the dogs a sneaky treat or two! The children have been very excited for the therapy dogs to come back, and we hope to have them with us one day every month going forward.

Parents can check their child’s attendance in the Sentral Parent Portal app by following these steps:
1. Log in
- Open the Sentral for Parents app on your phone or tablet.
- Sign in with your registered email and password. (If you haven’t registered yet, you’ll need to use the access key provided by your child’s school to set up your account.)
2. Select the Student
- From the home screen, choose your child’s profile.
- If you have multiple children linked, you can switch between them.
3. Access Attendance
- Look for the Attendance or Daily Attendance option in the menu.
- Tap on it to view your child’s records.
4. Review Records
- You’ll see a breakdown of absences, lateness, partial absences, and full-day attendance.
- Many schools colour-code the entries (e.g., green for present, yellow for late, red for absent).
- Some schools also allow you to submit explanations for absences directly in the app.
5. Notifications
- If your school has enabled push notifications, you may also get alerts when your child is marked absent or late.
- You can usually send an absence note via the app straight to the school.
1. Open the App & Log In
- Open the Sentral for Parents app.
- Sign in with your registered details.
2. Go to the Absence Section
- From the home screen, select your child’s profile.
- Look for Absences, Attendance, or sometimes Notifications (the exact wording depends on your school’s setup).
3. View Unexplained Absences
- You’ll see a list of absences marked as “Unexplained”.
- Tap on the absence you want to explain.
4. Add Explanation
- Enter the reason for your child’s absence (e.g., “illness”, “family reasons”).
- You may also need to select whether it was a full day or partial absence.
- Some schools allow attachments (e.g., medical certificates).
5. Submit
- Tap Submit (or Send) to forward the explanation to the school.
- The absence will then change from Unexplained to Explained once processed.
Extra Notes
- If you can’t see the option to submit explanations, your school may only accept absence notes through phone/email.
- You can usually also lodge future absences (e.g., family holiday) if the school has allowed this in Sentral.
1. Collect the Leave Form
- Parents/carers need to request a leave application form from the front office.
- This is often called an Application for Extended Leave – Travel/Exemption form.
2. Provide Supporting Information
-
The form must be accompanied by relevant details, such as:
- Travel itinerary (if going overseas/interstate).
- Reason for leave (e.g., family event, cultural reasons).
- Dates the student will be absent.
-
Supporting documents (e.g., flight details, invitation letters) should be attached.
3. Submit to School
- Return the completed form and attachments to the school office before the leave begins.
- The school staff will record the application and pass it on to the Principal.
4. Principal’s Approval
- The Principal must review and sign the leave application.
- Only the Principal (not classroom teachers or admin staff) can authorise student leave.
5. Notification
- Once approved, the office will notify parents/carers.
- The leave is then entered into Sentral as an “Explained Leave” with the Principal’s authorisation.
✅ Key Point:
Short absences (1–2 days) can usually be explained directly through the Sentral Parent App.
Extended leave (5+ days, especially for travel) requires the formal leave application process outlined above.
The right support early makes the biggest difference.
Find the care your child needs to help them be the best they can be.

What are Urgent Care Services?
NSW Urgent Care Services have been introduced across the state to help reduce pressure on emergency departments. These services give you the care you need quickly for an illness or injury that is not an emergency such as:
• minor cuts
• sprains or suspected fractures
• sports injuries
• minor infections
• urinary tract infections (UTIs)
• minor burns
• rashes
• insect or animal bites
• cough, cold or flu
• mild asthma attacks
• earaches
• fevers or chills.
Eligibility
You may be eligible to access an Urgent Care Service if you are:
• a resident living in a community located in NSW or near its border
• experiencing an acute injury or illness that is not an emergency
• needing medical treatment in the next 2 to 12 hours; and
• unable to get an appointment with your own General Practitioner (GP) or at nearby medical centres.
How do I access a NSW Urgent Care Service?
To find out if urgent care is the right care for you, call healthdirect on 1800 022 222 for free at anytime (24 hours a day, 7 days a week).
A registered nurse will ask you some questions about your symptom. Depending on the assessment made by the nurse, you may be advised to visit a NSW Urgent Care Service.
If you are advised to visit a NSW Urgent Care Service, the nurse will provide you the details to access the service, which may include making an appointment on your behalf.
Other ways healthdirect can help you
Accessing the right care at the right time for your particular health need is important. If urgent care isn’t right for you, the healthdirect nurse will help you access alternative options for medical care. These might include:
• Find you a nearby doctor or pharmacist
• Connect you to a virtual care service by phone or video
• Call you an ambulance or direct you to the nearest emergency department if your situation is an emergency.
At Wyong Public School, the Student Support Officer (SSO) is a non-teaching member of the wellbeing team who works closely with students, families, staff, and external agencies to strengthen learning and wellbeing outcomes. The SSO supports students through individual, small group, and whole-school programs that build resilience, positive relationships, and social skills. They help families by attending enrolment and support meetings when requested, coordinating initiatives such as the Breakfast Club, and establishing referral pathways to youth, health, and family services. The SSO also assists with transition programs, community partnerships, and crisis support, while maintaining regular communication with parents and carers. By connecting students and families with appropriate supports, the SSO plays a key role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.
Our 2025 SSO, Nic is now working in another Central Coast school.
Our new SSO, Red will start at Wyong PS in 2026.
